Context and problems

This project aims to provide students with hands-on experience in designing, developing, and implementing a project in collaboration with the National Heritage Board (NHB). The project challenges students to come up with innovative solutions that can enhance the organizational development of NHB by addressing existing problems. To empower the community and celebrate heritage, a series of Heritage Activation Nodes (HAN) will be launched in various precincts in 2024.

The challenge is to engage the local community to create HAN projects and programmes that cater to their needs and wishes, encouraging quality interaction, conversation, and shared appreciation of heritage between different generations. The exploration involves engaging the local community in HAN@Katong-Joo Chiat and ideating beyond the usual heritage-related initiatives like heritage trails, heritage murals, or exhibitions of 'the past'. The goal is to propose initiatives that promote 'living heritage', 'heritage for everyone', and 'heritage for well-being' while creating a meaningful impact.
