Context and problems

As Singapore's local arts field attracts younger talents, experts and graduates, more and more young people have interest working in the field but are unsure of its expectations. Often, these young graduates look for support when finding ways to transition between academic to professional working contexts. What can the National Arts Council provide in order to fill in these gaps between transitioning contexts to new arts graduates who wish to enter the arts workforce? What are some ways in which arts graduates can develop a more comprehensive view of the professional working contexts in the arts?

In this project, LASALLE Arts Management students will conduct an in-depth study to identify the challenges and gaps faced by new Arts graduates who are entering the arts field and workforce through mixed methods research, and propose recommendations for NAC to undertake to support these graduates' transition to a professional arts working context that may / may not include developing resources or programmes.

The project goal to provide insight into the challenges and gaps that new Arts graduates face when transitioning from an academic to professional working context, and to support their transition by providing strategic recommendations to the National Arts Council (NAC) that are implementable and efficient that can be offered to graduates who wish to enter the arts workforce.

The objective of the project for Arts Management students are to engage them in hands-on experiences in the design, development, and implementation of a project in close collaboration with NAC. It challenges students to address an existing and real challenge that NAC faces and co-create applicable and implementable solutions that resolve this challenge and build organisational and industry resilience for NAC.
