Context and problems

Avventura is a Singapore-based creative-tech studio operating at the intersection of art, technology, and storytelling. In collaboration with renowned visual artist Yip Yew Chong, Avventura is developing Painted Worlds, Living Memories—a 3D-animated, free-roam virtual reality (VR) experience inspired by  Yip’s heritage paintings including his iconic 60-meter painting "I Paint My Singapore" Operating at a dedicated venue for groups of 8 to 10 participants, the experience transports audiences directly into interactive, nostalgic scenes of 1970s Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Gelam.

While the core VR journey evokes deep emotional resonance, Avventura currently lacks a structured post-experience model to help participants articulate, interpret, and share their personal connection to these living memories. To address this, students will design an inclusive, accessible reflection framework that accommodates diverse ages, languages, and abilities. Moving beyond conventional feedback surveys, students will research, prototype, and user-test reflection models that gather rich audience insights, foster inter-perspective dialogue, and extend the narrative impact beyond the headset.

Project Deliverables and Outputs

The final deliverable is an implementation-ready Living Memories Reflection Lab Toolkit (around 10 pages), formatted as an accessible online resource to support the public activation in 2027. The toolkit will comprise the following components: 1) Participant Journey & Reflection Station Design: A fully mapped post-VR participant journey alongside a tested, scalable prototype for a physical or hybrid reflection station featuring tiered engagement options; 2) Operational & Ethical Protocols: Comprehensive facilitation guidelines, setup and staffing requirements, accessibility adaptations, and data consent and content moderation frameworks for handling personal/cultural memories;3) Evaluation Framework & Prototype Testing Report: An empirical evaluation framework assessing emotional resonance, cultural connection, and narrative interpretation, accompanied by user-testing findings and actionable refinement recommendations derived from a live trial.
